Be still and know…

Don't forget that you have a body. Don't forget that you inhabit a body. Don't forget that you are a body. Don't forget that everything you think, everything you feel, everything you perceive, is connected via your nervous system to every other part of your body. In a very real way what you think in your mind affects what you feel in your body and vice versa. What are you doing right now? What are you focusing your attention on? When was the last time you moved your body in a way that wasn't mandated for your work? That wasn't required for you to make money? That wasn't suggested to you from a voice or source outside of you? When was the last time you moved because your innermost voice compelled you to do so out of its deepest desire for liberation and peace? When was the last time you sat still for those same reasons? Don't forget that you have a body. Don't forget that you are the universe perceiving itself and that as the universe, you are responsible for taking care of the passenger inside. No one else is responsible, just you. I just finished my evening yoga flow. It was challenging. It had opened new space in different corners of my body. Certain poses that may have felt easy a week ago, felt harder this week. Maybe poses that felt challenging two weeks ago, felt much more open this time. It's important to have diagnostic tools in place so that you know what your body needs and what your body wants. I've been practicing yoga for going on 12 years. It has absolutely transformed my relationship to my body. As a division 1 athlete having played football through high school and college for eight years, I trained my body to go faster to get stronger, to go through obstacles, and to ignore pain. After that time was finished, I began my yoga practice. It taught me to slow down and to surrender. It taught me to create space, and it taught me eventually to honor stillness as the goal, stillness and awareness. This is the practice I hope to help you cultivate, stillness within and awareness within. Even in motion, we can find stillness. When was the last time you truly heard yourself? Be still. Listen to the call from within. Be still and know.
